🎯 COURSE OVERVIEW

Studying for exams doesn’t have to feel overwhelming. With the right structure, tools, and mindset, you can turn revision into a productive and even enjoyable process.

This course takes you step-by-step through the complete learning journey — from preparing your study plan and organizing your materials, through active revision techniques like mind mapping, flash cards, and active recall, to self-assessment and reflection after your exams.

By the end of this course, you’ll have mastered the science of learning and developed a lifelong set of study skills that go beyond the classroom.

🧠 WHAT YOU'LL LEARN - SECTION 1 - Pre-Revision Work

Getting Organised and Ready to Learn
Before you even begin revising, preparation is everything. This section teaches you how to build the foundation for effective study habits. You’ll learn to create a revision timetable that’s realistic, flexible, and tailored to your lifestyle, so you can stay on track without burning out.

  • How to Make a Revision Timetable: Learn the art of time-blocking, prioritization, and setting SMART goals for revision sessions.
  • Advanced Cramming Techniques: Discover how to maximize your last-minute preparation without panic, using strategic review and retrieval methods.
  • Encoding for Long-Term Memory: Understand how the brain processes and stores information — and how to make your learning stick.

We’ll also explore Interleaving (mixing up subjects and topics for deeper understanding) and the Pomodoro Method (a focused time-based study technique that boosts concentration and productivity).

By the end of this section, you’ll have your entire revision plan mapped out and be ready to begin your study sessions with confidence and clarity.

🧠 WHAT YOU'LL LEARN - SECTION 2 - Revision & Study Strategies

Learn Smarter, Not Harder
This section dives deep into the techniques that make revision truly effective. You’ll discover a range of scientifically-backed learning methods that enhance comprehension, retention, and recall.

📘 How to Make GOOD Revision and Study Notes Stop copying from textbooks and start creating notes that actually help you learn. You’ll explore:

  • The Cornell Method for structured, efficient note-taking
  • SQ3R (Survey, Question, Read, Recite, Review) — the gold standard for reading comprehension
  • The Feynman Method, which turns you into a teacher of your own knowledge
  • The GRINDE Method, perfect for breaking complex topics into manageable chunks

🌈 How to Create Mind Maps
Learn to visualize information using mind maps and spider diagrams — two powerful tools for connecting ideas, themes, and topics. We’ll compare Mind Maps vs Spider Diagrams, and you’ll learn which to use for brainstorming, planning essays, or summarizing content for quick review.

💡 How to Use Flash Cards the Right Way!
Flash cards aren’t just for memorization — when used correctly, they can train your brain to recall information faster and more accurately. In this section, you’ll master: The Leitner Box System for spaced repetition Active Recall, a proven method to strengthen memory Tips for making flash cards that are simple, visual, and effective

🎶 5-Steps for Set Work Revision
While these examples are based on music set works, the five-step framework applies to any subject. You’ll learn how to analyze, summarize, and interconnect complex material in a structured, meaningful way that ensures long-term retention. This section also introduces the LOCI Method (Memory Palace) — a classic technique for memorizing sequences, structures, or lists — and Mnemonic Devices that make remembering facts both easy and fun. Finally, we’ll explore the Picture Superiority Effect, explaining why combining visuals with text helps your brain remember information up to six times better.

🧠 WHAT YOU'LL LEARN - SECTION 3 - Post-Revision Work

Reflect, Assess, and Improve
Learning doesn’t end when the exam is over. The most successful students use post-revision strategies to reflect, self-assess, and improve their approach for next time.
In this final section, you’ll learn how to:

  • Review your performance on practice papers and past exams
  • Identify strengths, weaknesses, and recurring mistakes
  • Apply Higher-Order Learning principles to deepen understanding
  • Develop an Inquiry Model of Learning, encouraging curiosity and self-direction

You’ll also get insights into what to do after your exams — from planning your next steps, to staying motivated for future learning, to managing stress and burnout.

And as a bonus, you’ll have opportunities to submit your questions to the course creator for future video responses, ensuring you get ongoing guidance and support even after completing the course.
